Make your home sacred

An altar is a tool for ritual. A fixed place in the home where you gather what is sacred in your life, and to which you return every day.

From one craftsman's workshop in Finland.

Hand-carved oak altar: a triangular structure with swans at the crest and serpents on the pendant. Photographed indoors.
The carved altar. Each piece is made to order.

01 · The piece

The Altar

The altar is available in two versions. The carved altar carries the full symbolic programme: the swans, the serpents, the world mountain, the whorl rosette.

The version without carvings keeps the same structure, the same joinery and the same finish. The triangular form is in itself a cosmological statement: axis mundi, the world mountain Meru, the inverted world tree.

02 · Symbolism

Three layers

The symbolism of the altar is built on three levels. Above, the swans: hamsa, the migrating bird that carries knowledge from one world to another. The swan is the symbol of the Atman in the Vedic tradition, and its two syllables reversed form the mantra so'ham, "That I am", the chant that dwells in every breath, unbeknownst.

In the middle, the altar surface: the human work, the place where the metaphysical and the material meet.

Below, the serpents at the roots of the world tree. They are a symbol of the energy behind the world's manifestation, at once movement and stillness, creative force and matter.

03 · Craft

One workshop

One maker. Roope Särkikoski, a carpenter with formal artisan training, backed by a decade of studying wisdom traditions in a living lineage. Every carved form, every symbol and every choice of proportion rests on an understanding of how sacred space truly works.

Oak, birch and lime wood. Tung oil beneath, Osmo natural wax on top. Cared for properly, oak does not wear. It ripens.

Order the altar

A home shapes the soul either by accident or by order. The altar is the foundation stone of that order and the place where the daily work of a sacred life begins. Once your choice is clear, leave your details. We will get back to you by email.

Materials

The top is oak. Legs and rails in birch, or alternatively full oak. The carved parts are always lime wood regardless of the wood choice: lime is a superior material for carving.

Finish: two coats of tung oil, topped with Osmo Color natural wax. The combination does not form a separate protective film on the wood. It absorbs into the wood itself.

The weight depends on the size. Around 9 kg in the M class.
